A Different Way To Set Your New Year’s Resolutions

I love fresh beginnings.

The new year is the perfect time to reflect on your year, your life, and yourself. But when it comes to setting my New Year’s resolutions, instead of reflection I use a slightly different technique.

I create my resolutions based on the coaching concept of “feedforward” (vs. feedback). Getting feedback and reflecting on your past performance focuses on your past. You can’t change your past. It’s already happened! The most you can do with your past is apologize for it and ask what change in behavior will move you towards a better future. That’s feedforward. Determining what changes in behavior will help you to do and be better.

If you want to take your resolutions to the next level, I highly recommend including others in your resolution setting. The people around us can sometimes see us better than we can see ourselves. Asking for feedforward is a helpful way of getting new ideas / insights on what behaviors you could be changing (for the better) as you’re designing your future.

That leaves you a HUGE opportunity to make 2018 your best year yet.

So, what do you want to do better? Leave a comment below and let me know what you’re dreaming up and how I can help! Remember, you don’t have to go it alone.

Wishing you all the best in 2018!
